Gana River Outfitters Ltd is a family owned and operated
business that offers premium fair chase horseback and
backpack hunts in the Mackenzie Mountains of Canada's
North West Territories. We are a choice destination for
Dall Sheep, Mountain Caribou, Alaska Yukon Moose,
Wolf and Wolverine. We offer both single species and
multiple species hunts from mid July through to the end of
September. Winter wolf hunts are conducted using snow
machines from late March through mid April.
Our exclusive 6000 square mile guiding area in the northern
Mackenzie Mountains lies within one of the largest
undeveloped wilderness areas in North America. We take a
limited number of clients each year in order to maintain a near
100% success rate and the high quality trophies that Gana
River is famous for. Our rifle hunters have enjoyed 100%
success on primary species for the past 2 seasons. We also
welcome archery hunters. Of the last 10 archery hunters, 8
have taken home rams or had near misses and all have had
multiple stalks. Rams taken by our clients the past 3 seasons
have averaged 11 years old and 37 inches in length with
several old broomed rams taken each year. The quality of the
Mountain Caribou in the Mackenzie Mountains is exceptional.
We take many record book bulls each year and the average
gross B&C score on caribou taken by our clients is
consistently between 380 &390. We take a very limited
number of moose each year and the success rate on 55 to
65 inch class bulls is 100%.
Our area is accessible by air only and all of our clients fly into
our modern and comfortable base camp via charter aircraft
from Norman Wells NWT. Norman Wells has daily jet service
from Edmonton Alberta. All clients are met upon their arrival
in Norman Wells and are looked after through each stage of
their hunt and up until their departure back to Edmonton.
We have a very experienced and friendly staff at Gana River.
Most of our crew has been with us for many years and each
and every one of our staff will do their best to make your hunt
the trip of a lifetime.
At Gana River we believe it is important that we all do our part
in passing on the tradition of hunting to the next generation.
We therefore encourage our clients to bring along their
spouse or a child or grandchild to share in their hunting
experience. We have very reasonable rates for both non
hunting and hunting family members. Our base camp is very
comfortable and is located in one of the most beautiful
wilderness areas on the continent, so please consider
bringing along a family member.
At Gana River we take pride in the quality of the service we offer. Our professional staff are trained and experienced and
will do their best to make your hunt both successful and memorable. Trophy care is second to none in the industry.
Capes are salted and dried and all trophies are cleaned, wrapped and prepared for you to take home at the end of your
hunt. We do our best to take care of every detail.

Our 2011 wolf hunt was a great success. Hunters Mike Tonn and Chuck Carlson each took home 2 prime grey wolves. Two of the wolves were
large males and 2 were mature females. We took in 2 brand new Tundra long track snow machines this year. The new machines were great for
breaking trail and we were able to cover lots of country in relative comfort as each of us had his own snow machine. Over the course of our 7 day
hunt we were able to locate and hunt 2 separate packs as well as several singles and I feel quite confident that we can be successful again next
year. We had some very cold weather this year (a couple of nights of -30), but the days were bright and sunny and the cabins are cozy and warm
at night. The hunt was conducted on the second week of April this year and so we had lots of daylight (17 to 18 hours per day).If your are
interested in a great winter adventure give us a call and book a wolf hunt for 2012--It's a blast!
