camp on a 2007 horse hunt.
Leo on the left and guide Rob Harvey with Leo's 61 inch moose.
Fred Sales took this moose at the beaver
dams on the Mountain River
Ray Duroy and guide Owen Porte found this moose within
100 yards of their camp- check out the amazing length on
the fighting points.  A small "drop tine" on the left shows
up better in the photo at the bottom of the page.
Richard Mackenzie stopped this bull with a cow call. The bull measured 63 inches
wide.  The bull was spotted right  from the brand new Golden airstrip.
Mary Grinde (left) and wrangler Jenny Boos with Mary's end of the
season bull taken with her trusty 25-06.
Outfitter Harold Grinde admires Duane's giant
moose back at basecamp.
Another view of Ray Duroy's bull with the
"drop tine" on the left, and the massive
fighting points clearly evident.
The northern Mackenzie
Mountains in the NWT are
known for their massive
moose.  Our moose
population is not huge, but
the bulls achieve enormous
size.  This is due to the light
harvest, and to "Bergmans
Rule" which states that
animals of a given species
tend to be larger the farther
north you go.

2007 was another fine year
for our moose hunts.
Everyone connected on a
good bull, except for one
mixed bag hunter who
collected a ram and a
caribou, and was looking for
a moose bigger than the 60
incher he already had at
home.

Mike's moose was taken with Adam
Grinde in the fog along the Mountain
River.
