Gana River Outfitters offers both Horseback and Backpack hunts for Dall Sheep, Alaska Yukon Moose, Mountain Caribou, Wolf and
Wolverine. We take a limited number of
archery hunters each year. Hunts are normally done 1 on 1 with one of our experienced guides, although
we do book 2 on 1 caribou hunts. All of our hunts begin and end from our Palmer Lake Base Camp which is accessed by float plane from
Norman Wells. Base camp is very comfortable with all the conveniences made possible with our hydro electric power supply. We have lots of hot
water for showers, heated cabins as well as a walk in cool room and a well equipped shop. Our modern kitchen is always well stocked with home
baked goodies and the friendly kitchen staff always have the coffee on. We encourage our clients to bring along a family member to share in their
experience.

If you choose to book a
horseback dall sheep hunt you will hunt in one our two horse camps. These are 12 day hunts and you will arrive in
camp the day before your hunts starts and leave the day after your hunt ends(weather permitting). Camp #1 is set up to handle 2 hunters at once,
while Camp #2 is set up for a single hunter. Both horse camps have experienced guides as well as a wrangler and usually a trail cook. You can
expect to hunt from a tent camp on most hunts but we also have a couple of cabins that are used for some of the sheep hunts. On most of the
horseback hunts you can expect to spend the first day of your hunt trailing out to the area where your camp will be set up. The ride will be from 3
to 8 hours depending on the area to be hunted so plan to enjoy the pleasures of a pack trip through the beautiful Mackenzie Mountains. You would
normally trail back to base camp at the end of  your hunt, but in some areas we can fly you back to base camp if you desire. Caribou are quite
common throughout most of the horseback area so they can be hunted as a option animal. We encourage all of our clients to purchase a wolf tag
as well. We do our best to manage the hunts so each area is only hunted once per year. This gives each hunter the opportunity to hunt in an area
that has not yet been hunted on that year, although the guides will sometimes choose to go back and hunt for a good ram that was seen on a
previous hunt.

Backpack dall sheep hunts are usually done from remote airstrips that are serviced by our supercub. The backpack hunts are 10 days in length.
You will be hunting 1 on 1 with an experienced guide. Backpackers should be prepared to carry a pack of about 60 lbs so plan on getting into
sheep shape. You will have a chance to go through all of your gear with your guide at base camp before you fly out to begin the hunt. The area is
huge and we do limit the number of hunters we take each year to maintain good age and size averages. Success rates are consistently near 100%
and we will do all we can to see that you go home with a great trophy. If you choose to add a mountain caribou you will usually come back to base
camp for a shower and a home cooked meal before being flown out to a caribou hunting area.

We also offer a
12 day mixed bag combo hunt for those who wish to try for all species. This hunt is done by backpack and has become quite
popular with our clients. Most hunters start by hunting for a dall ram in late August and then concentrating on moose once season opens on  Sept 1.
You can also add a caribou as the opportunity arises.

We do one
horseback moose hunt each year. This hunt is always a favorite and is normally full several years in advance. It is a great hunt to take
a good northern moose as well as a mountain caribou. Wolves are also often taken on this hunt. The hunt is done from either the cabins at Willow
Camp, or from a comfortable tent camp at the Beaverdams. Both camps consistently produce great moose and of course the best feature is having
the horses along to do the work of packing out one of these huge northern moose.

Backpack moose and caribou hunts are also very popular. You can choose to book your very own moose and caribou hunt or book a 2 on 1
caribou hunt with a friend. These hunts are done from drop camps in areas where we consistently take good moose and caribou. Although the
moose are huge we have had great success in taking them close enough to an airstrip that the pack out is not too tough. We can also supply an
extra packer if necessary. In late season we usually take some nice caribou right from our base camp for those who like the comforts of home.

We are now also offering winter wolf hunts from our Palmer Lake Base Camp using snow machines. Give us a call if you would like to see the
Mackenzie Mountains in all of their winter splendor and try for a northern timber wolf with a beautiful prime pelt.

We take great care in taking care of all trophies. If possible all capes will be salted and dried for your trip home. All skulls are
cleaned and all horns are packaged for you to take home when you go. We also have some freezer room and can usually freeze any
meat that you wish to take home with you.

Come and let us show you what the Mackenzie Mountains have to offer!
