All clients of Gana River Outfitter access the area through Norman Wells NWT. Norman Wells is a small
northern community of about 900 people located along the banks of the Mackenzie River. It has daily commercial
jet service from Edmonton Alberta provided by Canadian North Airlines and First Air. Flights should be available
into Edmonton from most major cities in the USA, although some clients choose to drive to Edmonton. Flights
from Edmonton to Norman Wells depart early in the morning so most clients will need to spend a night in
Edmonton en route. On arrival in Norman Wells clients are met by a representative of North Wright Airways who
provide charter service to and from base camp. Weather permitting your charter flight should arrive at base camp
the same day, which is the day before your hunt begins. Clients are responsible for charter costs, hotel rooms and
meals while en route. We will provide you with contact information for flights and convenient hotels.
The day after your hunt ends you will return to Norman Wells from camp via North Wright Airways. Weather
permitting you should arrive in town late that afternoon. On your arrival in Norman Wells you will be met by a
representative of the Heritage Hotel where we have made reservations for you. They will take you to the hotel
and get you squared away for the night. The following morning you will be taken to the Department of Energy
and Natural Resources for the mandatory game check of any trophies taken, and to pay any government trophy
fees that may be due. You will then catch the Canadian North, or First Air flight back to Edmonton late the same
afternoon. We will package your trophies and meat at base camp so that you can take them home with you
without too much hassle.
Please note that you will require a current passport in order to travel into Canada. We will provide all clients with
a complete travel itinerary as well as gun declaration forms, hunting licence applications, and any other documents
required to make the trip north to the NWT.
We also advise that you avoid flying with Air Canada as they charge extra fees for checking firearms.
